Every June, Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland together with KidsOut take over 25,000 disadvantaged children on a fun day out. The children visit the seaside, theme parks, adventure playgrounds and zoos, giving them all wonderful memories to cherish for a lifetime. Havant Rotary have been supporting this event for many years.
We were blessed with a beautiful hot, sunny day on 14th June this year when 10 Havant Rotarians accompanied 22 children plus staff from Glenwood Special School in Emsworth to a Kids Day Out to Marwell Zoo in Hampshire. This is an annual event organised by RIBI that provides disadvantaged children across the country with an exciting day out to a special place. Our coachload of eager kids and their teachers and helpers was split into 3 groups to enjoy the facilities at Marwell, including a packed lunch eaten in the grounds surrounding Marwell Hall, all provided by Rotary Volunteers. Children with a wide range of disabilities including 3 in wheelchairs were able to see giraffes, rhinos, antelopes, tigers and the whole range of animals, some of which are endangered, that thrive at this renowned zoological oasis.
